CAD files on AB site

Is it me or are the CAD files on AB's site ridiculous?

Take this one for instance..

http://raise.rockwellautomation.com...ents.asp?CID=246649F815C24BC6B1DB0F8B809BC39B

It shows a Step file available. Downloading it reveals a STEP file of a flat 2D drawing. Fantastic. I run into this a lot.

Also, many of the '2D' formats where you would expect an actual 2Ddrawing are actually 3D - essentially unusable in most CAD software unless you're using AutoCAD.

Is is that hard to put some decent drawings up?

Is there another site where good drawings of AB parts exist?

I agree that it is a hodge podge...what you get when you download a dwg from Rockwell. I have had to just roll my own in some cases, making a snapshot of their PDF as an opaque layer, then tracing the details I needed.

I agree. Very rarely do I get something I can actually use, and those 3D wireframe drawings are the worse. Even if I do a top or side view and hide lines, the drawing file size is still HUGE. Many times, I just give up, and draw a box.

I remember finding some that weren't even scaled to inches or millimeters. Just some random unit of measurement.

I know this is nearly a year old but I use a Russian website that has every drawing excluding some new models. It has worked out stupendously for me. I may have to cleanup some 3D models (DWG/DXF versions) but overall it looks great!
Here is the website: http://quadelectric.ru/catalog/abcatalog/
Here is an example of trying to find a 194R Disconnect Switch: http://quadelectric.ru/catalog/abcatalog/35806/?IBLOCK_CODE=abcatalog&SECTION_ID=35806&SHOWALL_1=1
Navigate to the part by series and then choose the part with the most descriptive name. The website has some parts that appear to only be reference items (http://quadelectric.ru/catalog/abcatalog/35806/1431949.html).
Parts with more descriptive names include the drawings and manuals (http://quadelectric.ru/catalog/abcatalog/35806/1280367.html).
Hope this helps anyone searching for better parts than what eCADWorks and the AB website supplies. :)

Do you mean something like this?

3DcontentCentral.com

The RockwellAutomation files are official, from them. But try searching for other user submitted files as well.

You should be able to preview the files then export them to any format you need.

Just today I tried to get a drawing for a 440C-CR30 unit and as usual the AB site is worthless garbage in that respect. I ended up copying an image from the PDF which I hate.

3DContent has nothing on this unit as well but thanks for listing. I guess I'm just asking for too much for a billion dollar company to get their act together.
