I am relatively new to PLCs and HMIs. I have a machine with a E1101 Touch Screen and I can not figure out how to connect to it. I have tried using Mitsubishi GT Works3 and had no success. I then did some searching and found that I had to use Mitsubishi E-designer which I have. The problem is not sure which port to use. I tried a USB A to B without success. I also tried a RS-232 but not sure how to open communication. It also has a Mitsubishi Q series PLC.

Hi.I using that HMI e1101 in past.To programing i use ethernet port an software E-designer, to connect with mitsubishi plc we use one side mini din8-positions male, another side 25-positions D-sub male.
Also you czn connect your pc by rs232port.

Hi,

You could simply power up the HMI and note what IP address has been assigned to it. The IP address is shown for a few seconds when the HMI powers up (it comes with a default address of 192.168.1.1). Then change the IP of your computer to be on the same subnet and provided the HMI has not been password protected you can suck the project out of the HMI using E-Designer (I don't think you actually need a crossover cable as I'm pretty sure the port is Auto-MDIX and automatically detects the cable type).

Regards

where did you get the trial for e-designer from?

It may be difficult to get E Designer it was discontinued some years ago, try reaching out to Beijers it wasn't expensive. the E series have two ports the 9 pin one is 232 & used for programming, the 25 pin has multiple connections for 485/422 (422 being for Mitsubishi mainly) There were badged versions Beijers did for Mitsubishi. the 232 lead is straitforward I cannot remember now but when they changed from the earlier versions (i.e. E900 etc. to E1000 range) they swapped the pins 2 & 3 over either from null modem or the other way round. You are better using serial connection to start with as the ethernet may not connect unless the Ethernet port is set for transfer (not sure if that is default setting). The other problem is the original programmer set a password then there is no way to recover the program. The last version of E Designer was I believe 7.xx that is the one I have

To transfer a program to the HMI. In E-Designer, Transfer menu, Export project transfer file, save the file, put it on a USB stick, and connect the stick to the HMI. The HMI will ask if it can create a file structure, say yes, then it will ask if it can install the new file.
